Course Description


Each course is 8 sessions, approximately 2 hours each (depending on the number of attendees), over a 2-week period.  Sessions are held four (4) times a week Monday through Thursday.  All sessions are held online via webinar and VoIP/chat/phone.  Here is exactly what each course will include.

 

PC Essentials


Week 1, Day 1 & 2

Word Essentials:  AutoText, AutoCorrect, Page Setup, expanding the dictionary, how to turn off/on RTF formatting, find and replace, toggling, utilizing the help section.  What's new with Word 2007.


Week 1, Day 3 & 4


Shorthand for Windows, how to save your shortcuts to more than one PC, instant messaging, how to install/uninstall programs, how to determine your system’s properties.


Week 2, Day 5 & 6


Transcripton platform demonstration, FTP demonstration, how to setup different types of WavPedals.


Week 2, Day 7 & 8


Disk cleanup, disk defrag, setting up and scheduling virus scans, firewalls, spyware, backing up on flash drives.



Basic Computer Essentials


Week 1; Day 1, 2 & 3


Opening and saving documents, opening a file, deleting text, undo/redo, cut/copy & paste, bold, underline, italicize, numbering/bulleting, spell check and much, much more.


Week 1, Day 4


 

Parts of a spreadsheet, working with formulas, moving around a worksheet, formatting cells, and much more.


Week 2, Day 5 & 6


Stand-alone programs versus internet-based programs, setup, creating emails, forwarding emails, replying to emails, attachments, email etiquette and more.


Week 2, Day 7


Internet basics, cookies, spyware/adware, web browser types, saving favorites and more.

Week 2, Day 8


Computer maintenance and recap.

  • Internet Connection Required: Cable modem, DSL, or better recommended

  • Recommended: Minimum of Pentium® class 1GHz CPU with 512 MB of RAM (2 GB of RAM for Windows Vista)

For Mac-based Attendees

  • Required: Mac OS® X 10.4 (Tiger®) or newer

  • Required: Safari™ 3.0 or newer, Firefox 2.0 or newer; (JavaScript and Java enabled)

  • Internet Connection Required: Cable modem, DSL, or better recommended

  • Required: PowerPC G4/G5 or Intel processor, 512 MB of RAM or better recommended

To Use VoIP

  • Required: Fast Internet connection  (384 kbps or more recommended)

  • Required: Microphone and Speakers (USB headset recommended)
